ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — After a weekend of only draws, Griffon Soccer (3-3-4, MIAA 1-0-2) looks to return to the win column as they return to Spratt Stadium this coming weekend.
The team will face two more MIAA teams in the No. 25-ranked Washburn Ichabods and the Emporia State Hornets. The Griffons have yet to lose an MIAA game this season thus far.

Fans can watch all Griffon Soccer home games for a subscription fee on the MIAA Network. Director of Athletic Communications Derek Zimmerman-Guyer will call the action, with pregame starting 20 minutes before each kickoff. Game admission is available in the "Tickets" tab.

10/6 - SCOUTING NO. 25 WASHBURN | 7 PM
Back at Spratt Stadium once again, the Griffons open their weekend slate against the leaders of the MIAA, the Washburn Ichabods (9-1, 3-0 MIAA). The two teams are set to square off on Friday, Oct. 6.
Who to Watch
Junior midfielder Ana Muruzabal is the big playmaker for the Ichabods, as she leads the team in goals this season with five. She also has notched three assists of her own. Freshman forward Mackinly Rohn has made her presence known on the team in her first year. She leads the team in assists with six, including three of them in their game against Southwest Minnesota State.
Head Coach
The Ichabods have been led by head coach Davy Philips for six seasons. In those six seasons, Philips has had 30 of his players be selected for all-conference. His record since he took over in 2017 is 53-43-8.

The Griffons are 12-13 all-time against the Ichabods and are 7-5 at home.
Last Time Out
The last time the teams met, the Ichabods got a narrow 1-0 victory on Sept. 30 last season. In that game, the only goal was scored in the first minute of the match by forward Riley Wells. The Griffons had five shot attempts, but only one was on goal.
Fill The Van Food Drive
Griffon Soccer will be collecting food donations between 6-7 p.m. on Friday prior to kickoff for their Fill The Van Food Drive. All donations will go to the campus cupboard to help feed local middle and high school students and families in need. The most needed items are canned proteins, vegetables, pasta, breakfast, fruits and juices, rice, soups and stews, peanut butter and jelly.
10/8 - SCOUTING EMPORIA STATE | 1 PM
Emporia State (3-4-3, MIAA 2-1) will travel from Maryville to St. Joseph after facing Northwest Missouri State (3-4-3, MIAA 0-2-1). Emporia State is coming off a 3-0 win at home vs. Rogers State.
Who to Watch
The Hornets have a total of eight different goal-scorers on their team this season. Graduate student forward Mackenzie Demarco is the goal-scoring leader with four goals. She is second in the MIAA in shots and shots on goal. The team's goalkeeping duties have been split by sophomore Mackenzi Goen and freshman Katie Stoskopf. Goen has racked up the most minutes with 585, along with collecting 28 saves. Stoskopf has played 225 minutes and has tallied 12 saves with an 85% save percentage.
Head Coach
In his 11th season at the university, Byran Sailer's record is 96-79-28 overall. Sailer's winning record makes him the winningest coach in program history. He has led his team to eight straight winning seasons and has made one NCAA Tournament appearance.
Rivalry Record Rabbit Hole
Missouri Western is 9-12-3 vs. Emporia State and 3-7-2 at home. In the 24 matchups, they have gone into overtime seven times, four of which were double OT. Missouri Western has not beaten Emporia State in five years, last victorious on Sept. 28, 2018, when the Griffs came back from behind and won in overtime 4-3.
Last Time Out
The last time the Griffons played the Hornets was a difficult one, as MWSU lost 6-0. In that game, Demarco had three of the six goals. The Griffons shot 12 times, but only four were on target.
Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day
Sunday afternoon will be the team's opportunity to show their gratitude to the faculty and staff at Missouri Western. Each player on the team has been tasked with inviting a professor or staff member of the university to honor before the game on Sunday.

In 2019, the Griffons faced the same team they will be meeting this Oct. 6, the Washburn Ichabods. The Griffons won the game 2-1, snapping a three-game losing streak. In the match, senior Mackenzie O'Neill scored the game-winning goal in the 91st minute. That win was their fourth win of the season and their last.

Back in 2021, the Griffons won their second game in a row against Fort Hays State. Thanks to the boot of then-sophomore Jaden Skinner in the 58th minute, the Griffons defeated the Tigers 1-0. The team tallied 16 shots that game. Junior goalkeeper Anna Mayer collected five saves, shutting down all of the Tigers' shot attempts on goal.
