Skinner secures MIAA Offensive Athlete of the Week award

KANSAS CITY, Mo.  The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association has announced its women's soccer weekly awards for the fifth week of contests in the 2023 season.
 
MIAA Offensive Athlete of the Week – Jaden Skinner, Missouri Western       
Jaden Skinner led all MIAA scorers last week with a trio of goals. Skinner was the sole scorer for Missouri Western in its weekend on the road, sinking all three MWSU goals in two conference draws. After giving the Griffs a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute against Nebraska Kearney, the senior scored twice at Fort Hays State. Down 1-0 against the Tigers, Skinner scored on a penalty kick in the 34th minute, then scored her second goal of the match moments later in the 37th minute en route to a 2-2 draw. With her performance this weekend, Skinner now leads the league with seven goals and 15 points on the season.
 
MIAA Defender of the Week – Joanie Westcoat, Emporia State       
Joanie Westcoat helped lead the Emporia State defense that shutout two MIAA opponents over the weekend. The veteran defender played all 90 minutes in a 2-0 win over Northeastern State and all 90 minutes in the 3-0 win over Rogers State as Emporia State recorded back-to-back shutouts and their third in the past four matches.
 
Co-MIAA Goalkeeper of the Week – Raegan Wells, Washburn  
Raegan Wells was 2-0 in net this past week in a pair of shutouts as the Ichabods improved to 9-1 on the season and 3-0 in the MIAA after topping Rogers State 1-0 and Northeastern State 2-0. The senior keeper had three saves on the week facing seven shots overall in 180 minutes of action. She also recorded her 65th career start moving her into first all-time in program history in starts made.
 
Co-MIAA Goalkeeper of the Week – Mackenzi Goen, Emporia State  
Mackenzi Goan helped the Hornets to a 2-0 weekend. The sophomore recorded a solo shutout in 2-0 win over Northeastern State which included five saves. She then recorded a combined shutout in 3-0 win over Rogers State with two saves in the first half against the Hillcats.
 
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Offensive
Angela Palmer – Emporia State
Angela Palmer helped Emporia State to a 2-0 week in MIAA competition. The senior recorded a goal and an assist in the 3-0 win over Rogers State. Palmer's goal in the first minute of the match proved to be the game-winning goal for the Hornets. She also got a shot off in ESU's 2-0 shutout of Northeastern State.
 
Aisley Stevens – Missouri Southern
Aisley Stevens led the Lions offense over the weekend with a goal in both matches. Stevens's goal against Newman tied the match 1-1 before halftime, but Newman scored in the second half to win. Stevens then put the Lions ahead of Central Oklahoma in the 83rd minute on the road, but the defense allowed a goal from UCO in the final minute of play to draw at 1-1. Both goals by Stevens were the only goals for Southern this week and displayed her talents to help make a push for some wins on the season.
 
Defenders
Emily Hutchings – Fort Hays State
Emily Hutchings played the entire 180 minutes for the week, helping the Tigers to a shutout win over Northwest Missouri. She also provided an assist on a goal in the 2-2 tie against Missouri Western. Hutchings has been playing as a defender this season after playing in the midfield throughout the majority of her career.
 
Lauren Nylund – Missouri Western
Throughout both of Missouri Westerns draws this weekend, Lauren Nylund played every minute of each contest, stretching her full-time streak to six games. The junior defender helped keep Nebraska Kearney to just one goal, surviving 10 total shots on the night in 1-1 draw. In the Griffs 2-2 draw with Fort Hays State, Nylund and the Griffons back line held the Tigers to just four shots on goal, producing a team season-low shots on goal percentage of 33.3 percent.
 
Goalkeepers
Susie Boviard – Nebraska Kearney     
Susie Bovaird helped the Lopers record two home draws over the weekend. The freshman allowed just one goal and collected nine saves.
