Griffon Basketball to host second annual Play Unified Day

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. —  Griffon Men's and Women's Basketball will once again partner with Special Olympics Missouri to host a basketball clinic on Oct. 23 from 1-5 p.m. at the MWSU Fieldhouse at the Looney Complex.

No prior basketball experience is required, and the event will not be restricted to those involved with Special Olympics. The first part of the event will be a skills clinic, followed by play Play Unified 5v5 games. The teams will be made up Special Olympics athletes as well as members from the MWSU Men's and Women's basketball teams. 

"We feel so blessed to be able to host our second annual Play Unified Day with Special Olympics," said Men's Basketball Head Coach Will Martin. "This is a transformative experience for everyone involved and we are humbled to be a part of it. Service and community are pillars we strive to uphold in our program and we are grateful for the opportunity give back to out city in a positive way."

"We absolutely love this partnership with Special Olympics," said Women's Basketball Head Coach Candi Whitaker. "It's a fantastic day filled with lots of joy that really reminds you why you play the game of basketball. It is certainly an event where we receive way more than we give."

Last years event provided a fantastic turnout and created opportunities for all parties to have lots of fun. Those interested should click the registration tab above and fill the registration form out. The clinic is free of charge.
