Griffons' shutout streak comes to an end with tight loss to No. 6 UCM

WARRENSBURG, Mo. — Despite holding two separate leads, Griffon Soccer came up just short on Friday night to the No. 6 Central Missouri Jennies.

For long stretches of the game, the Griffons controlled the ball and played exactly how Interim Head Coach Leah Stringer asked. Despite this, the Griffons fell 3-2 to the Jennies. The Griffons opened the scoring in the 24th minute after a mistake at the back from the UCM keeper presented sophomore Elisabeth Pujado the ball on a golden platter.

Pujado's shot just crossed the line before it was cleared, but the assistant referee signaled that the ball had indeed crossed the line and gone in. Central Missouri (6-0-2) hit back seven minutes later to level the score. Halftime saw the game level at one goal apiece.

Three minutes into the second half, the Griffons took the lead once again. Senior Kaili Campbell nodded home an exquisite cross from junior fullback Sofia Zwick to restore the Griffon lead. The Jennies eventually capitalized on two chances, scoring in the 59th and 87th minute to tie and then eventually score the go-ahead goal.
