INDIANAPOLIS, In. — A Missouri Western program record seven Griffons qualified for the 2022 NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships starting on May 26 at Grand Valley State in Allendale, Michigan.
Five new Griffons will be making their overall NCAA Championships debut, as Missouri Western's seven student-athletes heading to the big meet shatters the school's previous record of two. With MWSU competing in five events, this replaces the squad's previous best of three events. The Griffons also set a new program high for individual qualifiers with four, doubling the previous record of two as well.
This is also the most qualifiers Missouri Western has recorded for the outdoor championships. Hanna Williams has twice gone alone competing in the women's 400-meter dash in 2019 and 2021, taking 16th and eighth respectively. Meanwhile, Phil Thompson, MWSU's first-ever qualifier, went alone in 2018 where he placed eighth in the triple jump.
The NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee announced the participants for the season's championship capstone this Tuesday. A total of 754 participants, 377 men and 377 women, will compete in the championships. Student-athletes qualified for the championships by reaching a provisional standard established for each event.
The complete list of qualifiers is available here. Heat sheets will be available at this same website by Monday, May 23.
The championships will be held May 26-28 at the Grand Valley State Track & Field Stadium. Grand Valley State University and the West Michigan Sports Commission will serve as co-hosts of the championships. The championships will be streamed live on NCAA.com.
