Rockhurst Rips Win Away from Griffon Lacrosse

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Three quarters of Griffon Lacrosse leading the Hawks led to heartbreak to begin GLVC play this Saturday night at Spratt Stadium.

Rockhurst ripped away Missouri Western's five-game winning streak with a 12-10 triumph that saw the Hawks outscore the Griffs 5-2 in the fourth quarter. Late goals by Dani Mabry and Helen Krause with under five minutes left to play cemented Rockhurst's win despite a 15-save night by MWSU's All-GLVC Second Team goalkeeper. Mackenzie Porter's performance ranks for fourth-most in the program's short history.

The Griffons (6-5, 0-1 GLVC) jumped ahead early thanks to Madison Brady's first goal of three on the night within the first 42 seconds. Sam Pruitt found two of her three goals in the first quarter as well with Brady assisting the first — her first of three. Pruitt's final goal came way of a Morgan Nicholson pass just five minutes into the fourth quarter — which was the last MWSU score of the night.

Logan Derosia of Rockhurst (6-4, 1-0 GLVC) logged her own hat trick — scoring her last goal to knot the contest at 10-10 with eight minutes forty seconds left to play. The Hawks had 27 shots on goal while MWSU mustered up 15 of their own.
