Baseball loses series finale at Central Oklahoma, 6-5

EDMOND, Okla. – The Missouri Western baseball team lost the finale of its three-game series at Central Oklahoma Sunday, 6-5.  The Griffons dropped all three games and fall to 10-23 this season and 8-19 in the MIAA.
 
The Bronchos jumped out to a 3-0 lead Sunday before MWSU bounced back with two runs in the fifth inning.  Ryan Neise and Gustavo Gonzalez each had RBI singles to pull the Griffons within one run, but UCO came back with three in the bottom of the fifth to take a 6-2 lead.
 
Missouri Western rallied again to pull within one run in the eighth inning.  Gonzalez had another RBI single in the seventh inning and Zach Hanlan hit a two-run home run in the eighth, but they were never able to tie the game or take the lead.
 
Gonzalez, Maurice Bruce and Jared Munk had two hits each to lead MWSU, while Neise scored two runs.  Jordan Akins suffered the loss on the mound as he allowed six runs on six hits in six innings of work.  Jacob Weirich kept the Griffons in the game as he threw two scoreless innings of relief.
 
Missouri Western returns home after its six-game road trip to entertain Pittsburg State in a three-game series beginning on Friday at the Griffon Spring Sports Complex.
