Box Score ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Missouri Western baseball team lost the opening game of their three-game series with Pittsburg State Friday night, 5-1, at the Spring Sports Complex. The Griffons fall to 10-24 this season and 8-20 in the MIAA.
The Gorillas scored two runs in first inning to take an early lead and the MWSU offense struggled to get going Friday against Pitt State starter David Henderson, who went eight innings. PSU added a run in the fourth to a take a 3-0 lead before the Griffons scored their first run on an RBI ground out by
Ben Tsui in the sixth inning. That was all MWSU would get.
Missouri Western had just four hits in the game as Tsui,
Gustavo Gonzalez,
Andrew Meier and
Ryan Neise each had a base hit.
Brian Tan suffered the loss on the mound as he went 6.1 innings and allowed four runs on seven hits. He struck out four and walked just one.
The Griffons honored their 12 seniors before the game as this is the final home series of the season for MWSU.
Missouri Western and Pittsburg State wrap up their series Saturday with a doubleheader at the Spring Sports Complex beginning at 1:00 p.m.
