LIBERTY, Mo. - The Missouri Western baseball team run-ruled William Jewell Tuesday, 13-1, in seven innings at Talley Stadium in a non-conference game. MWSU improves to 7-14 this season, while the Cardinals drop to 5-10.
The Griffons took advantage of three walks by Jewell in the first inning as they also had three hits and jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Missouri Western dominated the entire way as they added one run in the second, three in the fourth inning, four more in the fifth inning and two runs in the sixth.
MWSU pounded out 15 hits on Tuesday as
Alex Crouch,
Maurice Bruce and
Reid Briney had three hits each, and
Sal Jacobo added two. Bruce and
Colby Tam had four RBI each, while Briney added three runs batted in and Crouch scoerd four runs.
Five Griffon pitchers combined to two-hit the Cardinals.
Brian Tan and
Brock Wrolstad each threw two scoreless innings, while
Blake Van Hercke,
Jacob Standridge and
Jack Schmedding each threw one inning each. The only William Jewell run was an unearned run in the seventh inning.
Missouri Western gets back into MIAA play Friday as they play a doubleheader at Northwest Missouri State beginning at 12:00 p.m.
