MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Missouri Western baseball team lost both games of its doubleheader at Northwest Missouri State Friday afternoon as they drop to 7-16 this season and 5-12 in the MIAA. MWSU fell in the opener, 6-4, before losing game two, 8-4.
GAME 1 – Northwest Missouri State 6, Missouri Western 4
The Griffons'
Colby Tam hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning to give Missouri Western a 1-0 lead, but Northwest answered back with two in the bottom of the first and three more runs in the second inning. Tam and
Alex Crouch each drove in a run in the third inning to pull the Griffs within two runs, 5-3, but they never got any closer.
Crouch had three of MWSU's eights hits, while
Brady Holden added two and two runs scored.
Jordan Akins (1-3) suffered the loss on the mound as he allowed six runs and seven hits in 4.0 innings of work.
GAME 2 – Northwest Missouri State 8, Missouri Western 4
Missouri Western scored two unearned runs in the second inning of game two to take another early lead, but the Bearcats then scored two runs in each of the next four innings to pull away and complete the sweep.
Holden, Crouch and
Bailey Crump had two hits each for the Griffons, while
Gustavo Gonzalez drove in two runs and
Chaz Verduzco added one RBI.
Jacob Weirich (1-3) gave up four earned runs and eight hits in 4.0 innings on the mound.
