ST. JOSEPH – Griffon Soccer (3-2-1) picked up its third straight win and second straight shutout, defeating Northwest (1-4-1) 2-0 in a non-conference tilt, Sunday afternoon at Spratt Stadium. The Griffons became the first team this season to keep the Bearcats off the scoreboard.
The Griffons picked up their eighth consecutive win in the rivalry series on two first half goals.
Taylor Schwartzkopf finally got her first goal of the season in the 12
th minute of the game. Schwartzkopf got past the Northwest goalkeeper for an easy touch into the net for her 10
th career goal.
Kaili Campbell scored the first career goal in the 44
th minute. The sophomore drilled a laser into the top left corner off an assist from MacKenzie Billings that put MWSU up 2-0 at the half.
The two goals were enough as
Anna Mayer pitched her second straight and sixth career shutout. Mayer needed six saves to keep the Bearcats off the board. Northwest actually ended the game with one more shot than the Griffs, 17-16, but MWSU had seven on goal.

The Griffons hit the road for the first time this season with a trip to No. 8 Central Missouri (5-1) on Sept. 27 for the team's final non-conference game of the regular season.
