EMPORIA, Kan. – Two women's track & field student athletes claimed individual championships at Saturday's Sam Williams Qualifier in Emporia, Kansas.
Hanna Williams won the 400m with a 55.51 which was good for a provisional mark, but short of her 54.69 turned in at the SBU Invite that ranked as the 17
th best mark in Division II this season. Williams, who earned an automatic qualifying time in the indoor season but was unable to participate in the national championships due to an injury, will now await NCAA selections to see if her time at SBU will get her into the outdoor championships.
Julia Odir won the triple jump with a provisional mark of 11.97 (39' 3.25") that tied her with teammate
Bailey Gilbert for the 37
th best triple jump in Division II this year. Gilbert finished fourth in the triple jump, Saturday, with an 11.49 (37' 8.5").
The two Griffon men's competitors on Saturday came short of provisional or qualifying marks.
Hunter Scaggs finished fourth with a 1.97 (6' 5.5") high jump.
Tanner Butterfield's 53.58 (175' 9") javelin throw was good for ninth place on Saturday.
The event was the last chance to earn qualifying marks for the NCAA Division II National Championships which will be held May 23-25 in Kingsville, Texas.
