Box Score BENTONVILLE, Ark. – Griffon Softball closed the 8-State Classic with a 9-3 win over Missouri S&T.

A getaway day lineup proved potent as Missouri Western scored nine runs on 10 hits. Missouri Western threatened to put up a crooked number in the first, loading the bases before the first out was recorded. Missouri S&T locked down, allowing just one run on a walk. The fourth proved to be the Griffons big inning, scoring 6 runs to take a 7-0 lead.
Megan Korgie got the big fourth started with a solo home run to left center, her first of the season. The Griffons scored the next five with two outs, beginning with
Riley Wilson's run scored when
Kailey Green reached on an error.
Taylor Hamilton brought in two more when she lifted a double to right and
Sydney Washington drove in two more with a double of her own to left.
Janie Smith gave up three Missouri S&T runs in the bottom half of the fourth before the Griffons walked in two more runs in the top of the fifth.

Morgan Rathmann finished the game 4-5 at the plate with three runs scored. Korgie went 2-4 with two runs scored and one driven in. Hamilton was credited for three RBIs. Smith improved to 3-1, giving up three earned runs on six hits, two walks and six strikeouts.

The win improved Missouri Western to 4-3 on the season. The Griffons' next action comes next weekend at the Kelly Laas Memorial Invite in St. Cloud, Minnesota.Â
