ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -Â Missouri Western tennis begins a new era on Friday as first year head coach
Chris Canady leads the team into their first match of 2015. The Griffons will welcome Maryville University to St. Joseph as they will play at the Genesis Health Club on Friday starting at 1 p.m.
MWSU played two matches in the fall and went 2-0. The Griffons beat William Jewell 5-4 and dominated Baker University 8-1 in the two matches.
The Griffons have added three new players to the roster which include
Sofia Aguilera,
Yasmine El Ghazi, and
Sarah Giraldo. They will be the Griffons top three players heading into the match. Â El Ghazi came from Johnson County Community College and Giraldo came to Missouri Western from Cowley County Community College.
Maryville currently holds a record of 1-1 this spring. The Saints first match was against Chicago State University were they lost 9-0 and they played their second match against McKendree University winning 7-2. Maryville is a very young team with all freshman and sophomores on the roster. The team went 14-6 a season ago with all freshmen.
Missouri Western will look to get revenge on a team that sweep them 9-0 last season.
