ST. CLOUD, Min. - It essentially took two days, but Griffon Softball earned a key victory in the early morning hours Sunday. The Griffons used two runs in the top of the seventh to take down regional foe Augustana, 6-4, in the Kelly Laas Memorial Invite. The game was originally scheduled to begin at 9 p.m., Friday, but extra inning games earlier in the day pushed the start time back to around 11 p.m. The game ended at 1:45 a.m., Saturday. 

Shelbie Atwell's third hit and fourth RBI of the game gave the Griffons their final run in the seventh and what proved to be the final dagger in a back and forth affair. Riley Wilson led off the seventh with a pinch-hit single then stole second base. Paige Shifflett broke a 4-4 tie when her single drove Wilson home. Later in the inning, with two out, Atwell singled and advanced to second on an error by the Vikings' first basemen. The error allowed Taylor Schaben, who entered as a pinch runner for Wilson, to score. 

Augustana jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a two-run home run off Janie Smith in the third. Atwell hit a three-RBI double in the fourth to put MWSU up 3-2. The Griffons added to their lead in the fifth on another wacky play. Green struck out, but reached first on an error by the catcher that allowed Tiffany Gillaspy to score from third. 

The Vikings tied it in the sixth with an RBI double and a sacrifice fly, all leading up to the big seventh inning for Missouri Western.

Atwell finished 3-4 with four RBI and two doubles. Shifflett also went 3-4 with one driven in and a run scored.  

Missouri Western sits at 7-5 on the year heading into Saturday's games against Wayne State College and host St. Cloud State.
