ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Griffons' tennis team has a change in its schedule this week. Missouri Western was supposed to play Rockhurst University on Tuesday in Kansas City, Mo. and Baker University on Friday at home. Now, the Griffons will play Rockhurst at noon on Friday at Genesis Health Club.
Last weekend the Griffons dropped two close doubles matches against the Maryville Saints. In No. 2 doubles
Kayla Dysart and
Alyssa Dougan played well but lost 8-6 to Marina Marti and Nicole Kitsuse while
Lindsay Beger and
Denise Chiao fell against Renske Linders and Anne Lutz 9-7 in No. 3 doubles. The Griffons fell in the match against Maryville 9-0. They sit at 0-1 on the season.
In 2013, Missouri Western lost to Rockhurst 6-3, splitting the singles 3-3 before losing 3-0 in the doubles portion. The Griffons got victories from
Denise Chiao,
Lindsay Beger and
Alyssa Dougan last season against the Hawks. This year, the Hawks are 0-2 after falling to Newman University 6-3 and Indianapolis University 7-2. The Hawks are led by Jessica Koraleski as she is 2-0 playing at the No. 5 singles position. Fabi Juareaz is 1-1 on the season playing in the No. 3 singles position. The Hawks have struggled in the doubles matches not winning a match.
Next week the Griffons take on Ottawa University (Kan.) on Monday, March 3 and Johnson County Community College on Tuesday, March 4. Both matches are set to start at 2:00 pm either at the Genesis Health Club or Noyes Tennis Center.
