Damian Macias

Macias is in his third season as head coach of the Griffons. His first season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but MWSU did play an abbreviated schedule in the spring of 2021.

SPRING 2021 SEASON

Although the NCAA won't recognize the record and the statistics during the spring season, Macias guided the Griffons to an 8-3-2 record overall, a 4-1 mark in the MIAA Northwest division, a spot as the No. 23 team in the nation and an appearance in the MIAA Tournament championship.

FALL 2021 SEASON

Macias' Griffons were ranked No. 23 heading into the fall season of 2021. This second official campaign for Macias saw MWSU go 9-8-2 overall and 6-5 in the MIAA. At one point, the Griffons were ranked 13th in the country -- the best ranking in program history.

BEFORE MWSU

Prior to coming to Missouri Western, Macias spent three years as an assistant coach at the University of North Dakota.  He was elevated to associate head coach in 2019. During his coaching tenure in Grand Forks, the Fighting Hawks posted their three most successful seasons as a Division 1 member.

Missouri Western will mark Macias' first opportunity as a collegiate head coach, but his coaching experience spans more than two decades at multiple levels – including high school, club and all three NCAA divisions (I, II and III).  Prior to his tenure at North Dakota, Macias spent two year with the prestigious St. Louis Scott Gallagher Soccer Club, serving as premier director for both boys and girls programs.

As a military spouse, Macias is well traveled, with global experience coaching soccer in Germany and Japan.

Macias earned his undergraduate degree in criminal justice from the University of Texas-San Antonio before completing his Masters of Science in sports management at Liberty University in 2014.  Most recently, he earned a second Master’s of Science degree in 2017 from Ohio University in recreation and sports sciences with an emphasis on soccer coaching.
