2012 season: Started all 14 games...had 33 catches...had 508 yards and three touchdowns...had 144 receiving yards against Minnesota Duluth in the opening round of the NCAA Playoffs on Nov. 17...averaged 15.4 yards per catch.
2011 season: Started 11 of 12 games played...caught 28 passes for 489 yards and six touchdowns...had a career best 171 yards on five catches and a touchdown against Truman State...had 16 kickoff returns for 376 yards and a touchdown and 16 punt returns for 197 yards and a touchdown...averaged 88.5 all-purpose yards per game...honorable mention all-MIAA selection...MIAA Special Teams Player of the Week on October 10, 2011.

2010 season: Started all 12 games for the Griffons...he finished the season with 40 catches for 580 yards and four touchdowns...he also rushed the ball twice for 35 yards...had a career best six receptions twice and a career high 109 yards receiving in a victory over Pittsburg State on September 25, 2010...had 459 kick return yards on 15 attempts and 156 yards in punt returns on 14 attempts...averaged 102.5 all-purpose yards per game...Downing earned 2nd Team All-MIAA as a kick returner...had a career best four returns for 86 yards.
2009 season: Played in eight games...recorded a season-high 55 all-purpose yards against rival Northwest on October 3, 2009.
High School: Received the Old Spice player of the year award….Spartan award.
Personal: Son of Tyron Downing and Verna Dillon….favorite food is chicken…dream vacation spot would be anywhere overseas….favorite professional athlete is LeBron James….best sports moment is when his high school team won state….favorite video game is Halo 3….Tarrell describes himself as amazing…favorite cereal is Lucky Charms….his mother has had the most influence in his life….favorite movie is “Transformers 2”….most famous person Tarrell has ever met is Torry Holt….he wanted to be an NFL player growing up and that is still Tarrell’s dream.
