Volleyball scores wins over Northern State, Oklahoma Christian Friday

Volleyball off to a 7-0 start for the first time since 2002.

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Griffon Volleyball (7-0) scored a 3-1 win over Northern State (4-2) and then a 3-0 victory over Oklahoma Christian (3-3) on Friday at the Fairfield Inn Griffon Volleyball Classic on Friday at the MWSU Fieldhouse.

The Griffons, who have won each of their first three home matches, are off to a 7-0 start for the first time since 2002.

Game 1: MWSU 3 Northern State 1
The Griffons got up 2-0 before Northern came back and took the fourth 25-16. The Griffons closed down the stretch and sealed it with a 25-20 win in set four.

Tanith Roush continued her strong start to the year with a team-best 14 kills. Taylor Russell had 13, while Noelle Sutcliffe had 12 kills and 10 digs.

Katelyn Diani-O'Day had 27 assists with three ace serves. The Griffons finished with nine ace serves and 10 total blocks. Offensively, MoWest finished with a .336 attack percentage, knocking dowm 54 kills on 125 attacks,

Game 2: MWSU 3 Oklahoma Christian 0
MoWest got off to a strong start with a 25-13 win in set one. OCU was more competitive in the last two sets, but the Griffons had strong finishes in each, taking them 25-21 and 25-19.

The Griffon attack was strong again with 44 kills on 106 attempts (.349). The serve was also strong with seven more aces.

Holly Heldt led the way with 12 kills and 12 digs for her 36th career double-double. Sutcliffe logged 11 more kills. Roush finished with 10. Mackenzie Peters had two ace serves, and Brooklyn Gormley had two solo blocks.

What's Next
MoWest concludes their play in the Fairfield Inn Classic on Saturday with a match against Rockhurst. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m.
