WICHITA, Kan. - Griffon Soccer (5-1-4, 2-1-1 MIAA) secured its first MIAA road win of the season Sunday with a 2-1 decision over Newman at Wilkins Field in Wichita.
The Jets (0-7-2, 0-3 MIAA) struck first in the 24th minute with a goal from Allison Hernandez.
MoWest, after being shut out in the first half, came back quickly with two goals in the first five minutes of the second half. The goals were only 47 seconds apart -
Kendall Knisley had the first and
Alexandra Milano the second.
The Griffons were firing off shots all day with 30 total - third most in a single match in program history. MoWest outshot Newman in shots-on-goal, 14-2.
Milano had seven total shots - tied for fourth most in a single match in MWSU history - to go with two shots-on-goal.
Jaida Douch had four total shots - three of them on goal.
Morgan Byrd played the whole 90 minutes in goal and recorded one save.
MoWest returns home this coming week to host No. 19 Central Missouri (7-1, 3-0 MIAA) on Friday. Kickoff from Spratt Stadium is set for 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on the MIAA Network.
