ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) announced its Newcomer Academic Awards for the 2025-26 sports seasons, with 111 MoWest student-athletes earning recognition. The awards include the Academic Excellence Award, Scholar-Athlete recognition and Newcomer Academic Honor Roll for freshmen and first-year transfer student-athletes who competed during the 2025-26 academic year.
MoWest had 111 honorees included 111 student-athletes named to the MIAA Newcomer Academic Awards, eight Griffons recognized as Newcomer Scholar-Athletes and ten who earned the prestigious MIAA Newcomer Academic Excellence Award after posting a perfect 4.00 grade-point average.
To qualify for the MIAA Newcomer Academic Awards, freshmen and first-year transfer student-athletes must complete two semesters, excluding summer terms, at their current MIAA institution during the academic year.
The MIAA Newcomer Academic Excellence Award recognizes student-athletes who earned a perfect 4.00 grade-point average through their first two semesters. The Newcomer Scholar-Athlete Award honors student-athletes who maintained at least a 3.50 GPA while also earning All-MIAA honors in their sport. The MIAA Newcomer Academic Award recognizes student-athletes who achieved at least a 3.00 GPA during their first year at their institution.
