Baseball season ends with MIAA semifinal loss to Emporia State

Griffon Baseball corrects course with big jump forward in 2026.

EDMOND, Okla. – Griffon Baseball saw its 2026 season come to an end with a 14-1 loss to Emporia State in seven innings in the MIAA tournament semifinals on Friday afternoon at Wendell Simmons Field in Edmond.

The Hornets (37-15) benefited from six walks through the first two innings, leading 4-0 after that point.

MoWest (28-24) had lead-off singles in the first, second and fourth innings, but double plays in each of those innings ended the threat.

The Griffs got their lone run in the fifth on an RBI double by Luke Parmentier. ESU put things out of reach with four runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and three more in the sixth to win via run rule.

Micah Kobuszewski went 2-for-3 in his final game as a Griffon, as he had six total hits in the tournament. David De Hoyos, who ended the season by getting on base in 25 straight games, went 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Evan Peterson (4-1) made the start and took the loss, walking three of his six batters faced in the first inning. He was charged with three earned runs and two hits.

Seth Stover (7-3) threw a complete game for ESU, as he struck out five and walked none, holding MoWest to just five hits.
