SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – No. 4 seeded Griffon Tennis bounced back from dropping the doubles point to secure a 4-2 victory over No. 5 seeded Northeastern State Friday afternoon at the Cooper Tennis Complex, advancing in the MIAA Tournament.
MoWest lone win in doubles was a 6-4 victory at No. 3 from Mila Larrieu and Claudia Pastor. Northeastern State responded with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 to take a 1-0 lead into singles play.
Jevrosima Mitic sparked the comeback with a three-set win at No. 3 singles, while Claudia Pastor delivered a straight-set victory at No. 4. Alejandra Ramirez Botella followed with a 7-5, 6-0 win at No. 5, and Ella Gates sealed the team victory with a 6-3, 6-3 decision at No. 6.
At the top of the lineup, Johanna Priedite battled in a tight match at No. 1 singles but fell in straight sets. Cristina Granero Boj's match at No. 2 singles went unfinished after splitting the first two sets.
The win moves the Griffons to 17-4 on the season as they advance to the MIAA Tournament semifinals.
