Lacrosse rolls past William Jewell for second straight GLVC win

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Griffon Lacrosse (6-4, 2-0 GLVC) secured its second straight conference win in dominant fashion, rolling to a 22-11 victory over William Jewell (1-8, 0-2 GLVC) on Friday.

William Jewell struck first, but MoWest quickly answered as Ryann Durrett tied the game at 1-1. The Cardinals built a 4-1 lead midway through the first quarter before the Griffons responded. Clare Sondrall, Madi Brinkman, Durrett, Jessica Brook, and Olivia Fornelli all found the net in a late first-quarter surge to give MoWest a 6-5 lead at the end of the period.

The Griffons carried that momentum into the second quarter. Durrett opened the scoring to extend the lead, followed by goals from Caetryn Gilreath and Maddie Chidester to push the advantage to 10-6. William Jewell managed to cut into the deficit, but MoWest stayed in control behind another pair of goals from Chidester to close the half with an 11-7 lead.

MoWest continued to roll in the second half, taking full control in the third quarter. Brooke Tjernlund sparked the offense early before Chidester added another goal. After William Jewell briefly cut the margin to 13-9, the Griffons responded with a dominant scoring run. Tjernlund netted two more, while Gilreath and Olivia Fornelli each added goals to stretch the lead to 18-11 heading into the fourth.

In the final quarter, MoWest put the game away with three more goals. Madi Brinkman opened the scoring before Brinley Willenbrock, Brittan Gulick, and Jessica Brook all added late finishes to secure the 22-11 victory.
