KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Griffon Men's Basketball (21-11, 12-7 MIAA) fell to No. 1 seed Washburn, 85-69, on Saturday in the MIAA tournament semifinals at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City.
MoWest absorbed a 7-0 run right out of the gate from Washburn, but the Griffs responded and hung about in the first half. The Bods, however, ended the first half on a 8-2 run and led 41-31 at the break.
Washburn also started the second half on a 7-0 run and led 62-40 with 10:37 remaining. MoWest made a push, cutting it to 71-62 with 4:17 to go. That's as close as it would get, however, as the Ichabods (30-1, 18-1 MIAA) answered with a 9-2 run and pushed the lead back to 80-64 with 2:23 left.
Ty Henry led the Griffons in scoring with 15 points to go with six rebounds. William Kiburis followed with 12 points, four assists and four steals. Noah King had 11 points and a team-best seven assists. Gavin Hershberged dropped in 11, including a pair of made three-pointers.
MoWest shot 26-of-59 (44.1%) on the day, including 9-of-24 (37.5%) from three. Washburn scored 27 points off of 16 Griffon turnovers. The Ichabods were hot from three, knocking down 12-of-27. Jack Bachelor led the Bods with 27 points on seven made triples.
