Box Score KEARNEY, Neb. – Griffon Tennis (9-2, 1-0 MIAA) opened conference play with a strong 6-1 victory over Nebraska-Kearney (6-7, 0-2 MIAA) on Sunday at Harmon Park, securing the doubles point and winning five of six singles matches.
MoWest set the tone early in doubles action, taking two of three matches to claim the opening point. The duo of
Jevrosima Mitic and
Alejandra Ramirez Botella earned a 6-3 win at No. 1, while
Ella Gates and
Claudia Pastor added a 6-4 victory at No. 3 to give the Griffons the advantage.
In singles play, the Griffons controlled the match with five wins.
Johanna Priedite battled to a three-set victory at No. 1, winning 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(7-4). Mitic followed with a strong performance at No. 2, taking her match 6-2, 5-7, 6-4.
Cristina Granero Boj picked up a straight-set win at No. 3, 6-2, 6-4.
Alejandra Ramirez Botella added another point at No. 4 with a 5-7, 6-3, 6-0 comeback win, while
Claudia Pastor secured the fifth singles victory with a 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 result at No. 5.
Nebraska-Kearney's lone point came at No. 6 singles.
