Men's basketball scores key win over Rogers State Thursday

Griffons down Hillcats in big MIAA tilt behind big second half.

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Griffon Men's Basketball (15-8, 7-5 MIAA) finished strong down the stretch in an 87-78 win over Rogers State (14-8, 8-5 MIAA) on Thursday night at MWSU Fieldhouse in St. Joseph.

MoWest got down 22-12 at the 12:30 mark of the first half, but continued to knock down shots with RSU leading 46-39 at halftime.

The Griffons scored within the first seven seconds of the second half on a Marko Pavlovic dunk. MoWest took its first lead of the second half at 60-59 with 12:13 to play.

The lead grew to 80-75 with 2:08 remaining on a William Kiburis layup. MoWest closed the game on a 16-3 run in the last 4:40. The Hillcats made only one field goal in the last five minutes. The Griffons also made 11 free throws in the last 5:01 of the game as well.

Ty Henry tied his career-high with 23 points on 7-of-12 shooting. He made 7-of-10 at the foul line. Pavlovic scored 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting, while pulling a team-high nine rebounds, doling out a team-best five assists and tying a career-high with four blocks.

Kiburis finished with 13 points and seven boards. Trey McKowen scored 11 off the bench, going 8-of-10 at the foul line. Noah King chipped in 10 points as well.

MoWest shot 28-of-59 (47.5%) from the field, including 7-of-20 (35%) from three. The Griffs were also 24-of-31 at the foul line. MoWest was extremely efficient, doling out 16 assists to just five turnovers. The Griffons also scored 21 points off of 11 Rogers State turnovers.

The Griffons stay home to face Central Oklahoma (14-11, 7-6 MIAA) on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on the Griffon Sports Network (Varsity Network App, GoGriffons.com/listen) and streamed on the MIAA Network.
