ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Griffon Tennis opens the spring portion of the 2026 season Saturday, Feb. 14, welcoming Rockhurst University to Genesis Health Club for a 1 p.m. first serve. Admission is free for fans attending the home opener.

MoWest returns to the courts following a strong fall campaign that featured an appearance at the ITA Regional Championships in Edmond, Oklahoma. The Griffons closed the fall slate in impressive fashion with a 7-0 road sweep of Truman State University on Oct. 2 in Kirksville.

In the 2026 MIAA Women's Tennis Preseason Coaches Poll, MWSU was selected fifth with 47 points. The Griffons are just four points behind Northwest Missouri State University (51 points) and six points back of University of Nebraska Kearney (53 points, one first-place vote). MoWest also sits seven points ahead of Emporia State University, which was picked sixth with 40 points.

Head coach Alejandro de la Torre enters his fifth season at the helm, returning veterans Cristina Granero Boj and Johanna Priedite from last year's squad. The Griffons also welcome a talented group of newcomers in Ella Gates, Mila Larrieu, Jevrosima Mitic, Claudia Pastor and Alejandra Ramirez Botella as MoWest looks to make an impact this spring.
