Griffon Soccer forces draw in 90th minute miracle

Griffons score their two goals in the final 35 seconds to draw in conference opener.

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Griffon Soccer (4-0-2, 0-0-1 MIAA) pulled off a rather unthinkable feat in its MIAA opener, scoring two goals in the final 35 seconds to force a 2-2 draw at Rogers State on Friday night at Soldier Field in Clarmore.

MoWest was down 2-0 after RSU (0-2-4, 0-0-1 MIAA) punched in its second goal in the 72nd minute after a scoreless first half.

The Griffons were firing off shots all night, outshooting the Hillcats 29-2 overall and 10-2 in shots-on-goal.

The first Griffon goal came with 35 seconds to go when Kiara Carr scored one low and in the center of the goal with an assist from Camrin Peaslee.

Peaslee fired off a wide open pass down the middle, allowing Carr to break away and draw RSU keeper Calais Butts out of the goal.

Just 31 seconds later, Kendall Knisley fired a shot low and snuck it in on a bounce off of the left bar, tying the match at 2-2 with just four seconds remaining.

The last goal was assisted off of a Peaslee header, and Knisley collected the ball in the 18-yard area, firing off the tying goal from close range.

Knisley was active the entire match, firing off seven shots total and two on goal. Peaslee finished with two assists and three total shots.

Morgan Byrd played the full 90 minutes in goal. Brookelyn Buttolph and Nicoletta Froehlich played the full 90 minutes defensively.

MoWest is back home on Friday, October 3 to face the Newman Jets. That match at Spratt Stadium is set to start at 7:30 p.m. – part of a weekend-long celebration to mark 50 years of women's athletics at Missouri Western State University.
