Griffon Soccer blanks Newman behind three first-half goals

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Griffon Soccer (5-0-2, 1-0-1 MIAA) returned home from a four-game road swing and shut down Newman (1-7-1, 0-3-0 MIAA), posting their fourth clean sheet of the season with three first-half goals that set the tone in a dominant victory.

Kendall Knisley opened the scoring in the 16th minute, finding the back of the net with help from Aidyn Woodall and Maddy Harmon. Just a few minutes later, at the 20th minute mark, Rachyl Benavides doubled the Griffons' lead, assisted again by Woodall. Before the half closed, Camrin Peaslee added the third goal in the 44th minute, sealing a commanding first-half performance for MoWest.

The Griffon defense stood tall, limiting Newman to just three total shot attempts with one on goal and denying them any corner kicks throughout the match.

Morgan Byrd got the start in goal, holding strong through the opening 45 minutes. Katie Stoskopf took over to begin the second half, keeping the shutout intact before freshman Serena Magaha closed out the final stretch. Magaha also made her mark by recording her first career save, as all three Griffon goalkeepers contributed to the combined shutout.
