ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Missouri Western athletics has announced the addition of Mitchell Mellert and Connor Timmons to the athletics communications team.
Mellert takes over the Director of Athletic Communications role, while Timmons joins the Griffons as Coordinator Creative Content.
"We're very excited to welcome both Mitch and Connor to our family," said
Ryan Menley, Senior Associate Athletic Director of External Relations. "Mitch brings with him a passion for sports information and a blue-collar work-ethic that's crucial to his role. Connor is already familiar to us and is a very talented content creator with an eye for the moment."
"Both young men understand and embrace the mission of our communications department, which is to tell the collective story of MWSU Athletics. We look forward to them being a part of it."
Mellert, a native of Medina, Ohio, earned a Master of Business Administration in Organizational Management from Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) in Mount Vernon, Ohio in 2025.
While at MVNU, Mellert served as a graduate assistant to the Sports Information Director, beginning in 2023. His responsibilities included managing live gameday stats, writing game recaps, gameday operations, updating website content, media relations and serving as public address announcer for various events.
Mellert was also actively involved in MVNU Athletics during his undergraduate studies. He served as Team Manager for the men's lacrosse team, and later became the primary gameday statistician.
Mellert is also a member of the College Sports Communicators (CSC).
"I am beyond excited and blessed to join the Griffon family and community," Mellert said. "Everyone I've met at Missouri Western has been amazing and incredibly helpful through this process. I want to thank
Ryan Menley,
Andy Carter and the entire athletics staff for this opportunity. I look forward to promoting and covering our university's amazing athletics programs, and the outstanding coaches who lead them."
Timmons, a St. Joseph native, has been a freelance photographer and videographer for about eight years, while running his own media company called Glitch Productions for the last three years.
Timmons started working for Missouri Western athletics in the fall of 2024, helping out mainly as a photographer.
A Benton High School alum, Timmons was a member of the St. Joseph School District Sports Marketing program for two years, and was a two-time state qualifier in wrestling.
Both Timmons' mother and father are Missouri Western alums. His father, Jason Huskey, played baseball at Missouri Western and later coached the Griffons as well.
"I've always had a passion for sports and storytelling," Timmons said, "and I'm excited to bring that to the work I do with Missouri Western athletics."
Timmons officially started at Missouri Western on July 15. Mellert will officially begin his duties on August 15.
