Lacrosse set for home matchups against Dominican and Quincy

MWSU's matchup with QU will be the ‘Every Child Matters Game’

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Missouri Western lacrosse (5-3) is set to host Dominican (Calif.) on Monday before kicking off GLVC play against Quincy (Ill.) on Saturday in the 'Every Child Matters Game' at Spratt Stadium.
 
Action will begin on Monday at 2:00 p.m. as they will face the Penguins in the non-conference finale. On Saturday, the Griffons will host the Hawks, with the opening draw scheduled for noon.

TOP GRIFFON PERFORMERS
Senior Sam Pruitt leads the team with 39 points. So far this season, she has netted 23 goals and tallied 16 assists over eight games. In addition, the Ellisville native has recorded 17 ground balls, 13 draw controls and 10 caused turnovers.
 
Junior Caetryn Gilreath leads the team with 29 goals scored and has added two assists, totaling 31 points this season. The Lowell, Massachusetts, native has also recorded 14 ground balls, caused six turnovers and earned six draw controls for the Griffs.
 
Senior Grace Williams has been a key performer on the Western defense, recording an impressive 17 caused turnovers. Sophomore Brooke Tjernlund has also been a standout in forcing turnovers, contributing 13 this season. Furthermore, Jordan Porter has accumulated 16 ground balls, while Clare Sondrall has secured 18 draw controls.
 
Goalie Ava Garaway (5-3) begins the week with a goals-against average of 11.02. The sophomore has also recorded 72 saves and 17 ground balls over eight starts this 2025 season.
 
ABOUT THE PENGUINS
Dominican concluded the 2024 campaign with a record of 3-8, marking their second season in program history. As an associate conference member, they are not eligible to compete for the Mountain East Regular Season title.
 
The Penguins started the season strong, achieving an impressive nine-match winning streak, but suffered their first loss last Saturday against Rockhurst, with a score of 18-8.
 
Junior Morgan Newkirk is a standout player for DUC. The midfielder has amassed 34 points, including 30 goals and four assists. She has also recorded 18 draw controls, 10 ground balls and four caused turnovers.
 
Natalie Oyler (6-1) is projected to be the starting goalkeeper for the Penguins. The Meridian, Idaho, native enters the matchup with an 8.87 goals-against average and has made 66 saves, along with recording 16 ground balls and seven caused turnovers.
 
ABOUT THE HAWKS
Quincy finished 2024 with a record of 8-11 (3-4 in the GLVC) and was ranked fifth with 27 points in the GLVC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
 
The Hawks (5-3) enter the week with positive momentum, having won two consecutive games and three of their last four. On March 3, they achieved a notable 14-13 overtime victory against the Northern Michigan Wildcats.
 
A standout player for Quincy is junior attacker Amelia Ham, who leads the team with 51 points, including 32 goals and nine assists. She has also recorded 12 ground balls, six caused turnovers and two draw controls.
 
In goal, the Hawks are defended by junior Madison Whiting Wagner (5-3), who heads into the week with a goals-against average of 13.85. She has made 94 saves and collected 18 ground balls.
