MARYVILLE, Mo. – Makenzie Garr is an MIAA champion in shot put, as Missouri Western track and field competed in the final day of the MIAA Indoor Championships at Hughes Fieldhouse in Maryville Sunday.
Garr became a conference champion with a throw of 49 feet-1.75 inches.
Allyssa Mahone, who garnered all-conference accolades in weight throw the day prior, placed fifth in shot put with a throw of 45 feet-2.75 inches – a new NCAA provisional mark.
Garr, who's ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division II in shot put, has now garnered all-MIAA honors in the event three times, finishing third in the indoor championships last year and then second in outdoor.
Garr became an all-American in shot put last May, placing 9
th at nationals in that event.
Missouri Western is set to have Garr and Mahone compete in the NCAA Indoor Championships on Mar. 14-15 in Indianapolis.
Garr and Mahone will both compete in shot put, while Mahone will also compete in weight throw.
Mahone was an all-American in shot put and weight throw at the indoor national meet last March, placing 7th in weight throw and 6th in shot put.

Lillian Cutler shattered an old school record and placed 7
th in the mile with a time of 5:00.82 – nearly five seconds faster than the previous record.
In the 600-yard run,
Aneesa Abdul-Hameed placed 6
th in finals with a time of 1:24.69 – a new PR and the second fastest time in program history.
On the men's side,
Samuel Hydro placed 8
th in the finals of the 600-yard run at 1:11.97 – a new personal best.
In the 800-meter run finals,
Berhe Usman came in 7
th at 1:52.68.
In the 3000-meter run,
Pau Valderrama placed 5
th with a time of 8:12.72.
