Tennis home to face McKendree on Friday

Griffons face the Bearcats for the first time in program history.

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - No. 25 Missouri Western tennis (3-2) is back home for a non-conference match against McKendree (0-3) on Friday. First serve is set for 1 p.m. from the Genesis Health Club in St. Joseph.

The Griffons are coming off of a pair of matches in Edmond, Oklahoma this past weekend, where they lost to No. 16 Angelo State 4-3, but bounced back with a 5-2 victory over Ouachita Baptist on Sunday.

Ouachita took two of the three doubles matches to win a point there, but MWSU's No. 2 doubles team of Johanna Priedite and Maeva Roguet was victorious in their bout, 7-5.

Missouri Western then swept No. 2 - No. 6 singles Sunday. Priedite won her No. 2 match 6-0, 6-3. Celia Castaño Malnero won in No. 3 singles 6-4, 6-4.

Elena Rey Garcia won in No. 4 singles 6-3, 6-4. Roguet won No. 5 singles 6-2, 6-3. Ellie Messenger capped it off with a competitive No. 6 singles bout, winning 6-4, 6-7 and 1-0 (12-10).

Friday's match marks the first ever meeting with McKendree - a team from the GLVC Conference that's taken losses this season to Grand Valley State, No. 11 Washburn and Ferris State.

McKendree features a singles player in Lena Greefs - preseason ranked No. 12 in the Midwest Region. Their doubles team of Sofija Djunisijevic and Iva Poleksic ranked No. 8 in the Midwest Region preseason.
