Allyssa Mahone's victory and record-setting mark in weight throw highlighted Missouri Western track and field's showing in the 10
th Annual Russ Jewett Indoor Gorilla Classic at the Robert Plaster Center in Pittsburg, Kansas.
"Things are continuing to click," head coach
Cody Ingold said. "We have to weeks to sharpen up before the conference meet."
Mahone scored the win in weight throw with a distance of 63 feet-5 inches – a new school record and now the No. 5 best weight throw in NCAA Division II.
Elsewhere,
Haley Sampson placed 9
th in the 400 with a new PR of 57.18 seconds.
On the men's side,
Pau Valderrama placed third in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:12.66, setting a new PR and shattering the previous school record by 15 seconds.
In the 600-yard run,
Samuel Hydro placed third with a time of 1:12.31 – a new PR and the second fastest time in program history.
Hydro also placed third in the 800-meter run at 1:53.37. His teammate,
Berhe Usman, was just ahead in second place at 1:53.31.
Missouri Western's next scheduled meet is the MIAA Championships on Mar. 1-2 at the Hughes Fieldhouse in Maryville.
