ASHLAND, NE - The Missouri Western men's cross country team finished fifth and the women's finished sixth at the Platte River Rumble "Gold" Cross Country meet at Mahoney State Park near Ashland, NE Friday night.
The meet featured Division I teams in Creighton, South Dakota, Nebraska-Omaha along with fellow MIAA members Nebraska-Kearney and Northwest Missouri State. Peru State and Indian Hills CC were also in the field.
"We beat the teams we were supposed to," head coach Cody Ingold said. "We ran the race as a workout. We went out and controlled and worked on closing the back half of the race."
Four Griffon men finished inside the top 40, with
Joshua Zachary coming in 17th with a time of 18:31.55 in the 6K race.
Pau Valderrama was 20th at 18:35.95.
Wimach Gilo placed 27th at 18:45.37,
Kayden Crigger was 34th at 18:55.69 and
Berhe Usman was 38th at 18:59.29.
Further down,
Mason Orscheln came in 52nd at 19:21.19,
Logan Soedt was 65th at 19:44.02 and
Samuel Hydro was 67th at 19:49.05.
On the women's side,
Lillian Cutler was the first Griffon across the finish line in 41st with a time of 19:19.62.
Annika Muller was 59th at 20:22.09,
Bethani Grove 63rd at 20:51,
Bailey Cutler 65th at 21:24.65,
Cadynce Shipman 68th at 22:01.71,
Maizie Hageman 69th at 22:37.73,
Kat Hudson 70th at 22:49.42,
Abby Smith 72nd at 23:01.91 and
Reagan Craig 78th at 24:33.91.
Both Missouri Western teams return to Nebraska for the Woody Greeno/Dirksen Cross Country Invitational in Lincoln on Saturday, Sept. 21.
