EDMOND, OKLA. – Missouri Western State University junior Jeffrey Johnston worked around a pair of double bogeys Thursday, May 9, to be among the top 70 after day one of the 2024 NCAA Division II Central/Midwest Super Regional tournament.
 
The St. Joseph, Mo., native got off to a rousing start. He started on the back nine of Kicking Bird Golf Course with two pars and a birdie. After a double on No. 13, Johnston rebounded with five straight holes of par play. Concluding his opening 18 on the front, he continued his even-keel play with four holes at par and an eagle to buffer a double and three bogeys.
 
Johnston's 74 left him among the best seven of the student-athletes not playing with full squads. He goes into the second round of action Friday, May 10, just six strokes off the pace of the group's top two.
