Griffons turn in MIAA road split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WARRENSBURG, MO. – Fueled by a pair of game one home runs. Missouri Western State University was able to send senior pitcher Sydney Rader to her 45th career win Friday, April 26.

Rader collected double-digit strikeouts for the third time in a game this season. She fanned 10 University of Central Missouri hitters in a hard-nosed complete game victory, moving to 14-6 on the season. She worked around two runs and two hits by the home team in the first inning, allowing only one hit over the final six frames.

Head coach Joe Yegge's offense managed plenty of back-up. Junior outfielder Mackenzie Devine (Gretna, Neb.) and junior catcher Kennedy Preston (Des Moines, Iowa) both homered with Devine scoring three times as part of a two-hit effort.

MWSU (29-19, 11-13 MIAA) narrowly missed a sweep at Jennies Field. UCMO led 3-1 after five but the Griffons answered with a run in the sixth and had the tying run on in the seventh before falling 3-2. Freshman designated hitter Sarah Swallow (Highland, Ind.) cracked a home run, and sophomore Harley Pruetting (Gardner, Kan.) had a sparkling bullpen outing, striking out three in an inning and two-thirds of work.

The Griffons wrap up the regular season Saturday, April 27. Game time at Lincoln University is 12 p.m.
