Joe Yegge's Missouri Western State University team looking to halt a recent spell of three losses in four contests, the ball landed in their senior circle star's hands Friday, March 29. She acquiesced, earning career win number 42, taking a shutout into the seventh at Emporia State University's Turnbull Field. Despite a two-run rally by the Hornets in their final at-bat, MWSU claimed a 3-2 decision, allowing the tradition-rich program hit the 20-win mark in a season for the 21
st time in the last 22 years.
Junior designated player
Jada Collins (Des Moines, Iowa) doubled and drove in a row, and three other Griffons tallied two hits apiece in the opener. Yegge's crew appeared on the verge of a sweep, plating four runs in the second inning of the nightcap for a 4-2 edge that they took into the third. ESU turned in the tide with six scores over their next three opportunities en route to an 8-5 final.
Collins came back with two hits in game two. Sophomore third baseman
Myah Dwyer (St. Joseph, Mo.), winding up a five-hit evening, was three-for-four with a run scored and RBI.
MWSU (20-10, 6-4 MIAA) travels to Washburn University Saturday, March 30. First pitch is 12 p.m.
