Box Score ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Griffon Tennis got their revenge on Monday by taking down No. 33 Central Oklahoma 4-1 in the first round of the NCAA Central Regional at Genesis Health Clubs.
The Griffons move on to their second-straight regional final where they will face their fierce rival, No. 12 Northwest Missouri State tomorrow in Maryville, Missouri. The match today was scheduled to take place in Maryville at Frank Grube Courts as well, but due to high wind, the match was relocated to Genesis Health Clubs in St. Joseph.
DOUBLES
Cetnral Oklahoma won the first doubles match between the No. 1 pairings, as Nikki Boyar and Blythe Buntrock beat
Anya Chavez and
Nicole Donnelly 6-3.
Anais Peralta Criado and
Isabella MacGibbon grabbed the No. 2 match from Tizia Brocks and Karyna Yurchenko 7-5, and
Lucia Casas Blas and
Ariella Curci took down Nefeli Zafeiri and Pete Komada in the No. 3 match 6-2, giving the Griffons the doubles point and 1-0 lead.
SINGLES
The Griffons only needed four singles matches to get the job done, as the No. 5 and No. 6 matches did not finish due to the Griffons hitting the four-point threshold. MacGibbon won the No. 1 match fron Buntrock 6-4, 6-3. Chavez won the No. 2 match over Komada 7-6, 6-1.
The Bronchos grabbed their only point of the afternoon in the No. 3 singles match, where Zafeiri beat Casas Blas 6-2, 6-1.
Cristina Granero Boj won the No. 4 match over Nikki Boyar 6-1, 6-4, while Peralta Criado's match against Brocks and Donnelly's match against Yurchenko did not finish thanks to the Griffon win.
