Six-run inning puts Griffons behind late at Northwest

MARYVILLE, Mo. — Missouri Western Baseball fell to Northwest Missouri State in game two of the three-game series on Friday, dropping the game 6-3 due to a six-run fifth inning by the Bearcats to put them well ahead at Bearcat Baseball Field.

The Griffons (8-26, 5-17 MIAA) held Northwest scoreless for the first four innings of the game, as pitcher Robert Farrell sure the Bearcats (8-26, 6-16 MIAA) were held at bay. Missouri Western gave up just two hits prior to the Bearcats' big inning. Farrell finished with the loss on the evening and pitched 4.1 innings, giving up seven hits and six runs, with only four of them earned.

Despite the six-run fifth inning, the Griffons battled back. They held the Bearcats for the remainder of the game and were able to drive in three runs in the seventh. Jayden Singleton got the inning started with an RBI double, driving in Hunter Olsen before Cale Sackewitz hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Will Courtney. Two batters later, Jared Munk reached on an error and drove in Singleton to make the score 6-3.

Sam Kratz came in after the Bearcats did their damage in the fifth and finished the game for the Griffs, pitching 3.2 innings with one hit given up while striking out five.
