Box Score ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Missouri Western Tennis kept its momentum going on Saturday with a 7-0 sweep of Southwest Minnesota State at Genesis Health Club in its final home match before conference play begins.
The Griffons (5-1) won in impressive fashion, with no set getting closer than 6-3 in singles or doubles. Three different Griffons recorded 6-0 shutouts in their sets and Missouri Western won all three doubles games against the Mustangs (1-8, 0-2 NSIC).
DOUBLES
Anais Peralta Criado and
Anya Chavez won in No. 1 doubles, 6-2, taking down Peyton-Lynn Anderson and Courtenay Leonard.
Cristina Granero Boj and
Lucia Casas Blas won the No. 2 doubles over Faith Madikwe and Roz Oye by the same score, and
Izzi MacGibbon and
Ellie Messenger took down Maura Wiens and Camila Paccieri, 6-2, in the No. 3 doubles match to give the Griffons the clean sweep in doubles and take the first point of the match.
SINGLES
MacGibbon beat Leonard in the No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-3. Chavez dominated the No. 2 doubles match winning in sweeping fashion, 6-0, 6-0, the third time a Griffon has achieved the perfect game this season. Peralta nearly did the same, beating Joana Reis Indio in the No. 3 set, 6-0, 6-1.
Ariella Curci beat Paccieri in the No. 4 match, 6-0, 6-3, and Casas Blas took down Gabriela Almeida in the No. 5 match, 6-1, 6-1.
Nicole Donnelly finished the day off with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Anderson in the No. 6 match, giving MWSU the 7-0 win.
NOTABLES
- The Griffons are now 5-0 vs. Division II opponents this year, with the only loss of the season coming to Division I St. Louis.
- No Griffon has dropped a singles match this year against Division II opposition, with the only two points the Griffons have dropped all year long against Division II schools coming in doubles.
- This is the third perfect sweet of the season for the Griffons.

The Griffons take on yet another Division I opponent, this time traveling to Springfield, Missouri, to take on Missouri State (4-6) next Friday on March 10 at 2 p.m. at Cooper Tennis Complex. The Bears are coming off a 7-0 loss to Southeast Missouri State on March 4.
