ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Griffon Tennis kept its perfect conference record alive in a 7-0 win over Newman on Saturday, as the Griffons scored back-to-back sweeps to start the MIAA season for the first time in program history.
The Griffons (7-2, 2-0 MIAA) have yet to drop any points in conference play this season after beating Newman (7-4, 0-1 MIAA). The win extends the Griffons' win streak over the Jets to five, scoring a sweep against Newman for the third-straight match.
DOUBLES
Cristina Granero Boj and
Anya Chavez took down Amber Hands and Ana Zeikidze in the No. 1 doubles match, 6-4.
Isabella MacGibbon and
Anais Peralta Criado fell in the No. 2 doubles match to Dana Issabayeva and Isabela Bifano 7-5, but
Ariella Curci and
Lucia Casas Blas won the doubles point in the No. 3 doubles match over Antonia Ramos and Nicole Bono 6-3.
SINGLES
Chavez started the singles matches off perfectly, beating Dana 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 1 match. MacGibbon beat Ana Zeikidze in the No. 2 match 6-2, 6-4. The No. 3 match was the first of two singles to go to three sets, as Granero Boj beat Bifano 6-3, 4-6, 1-0. Casas Blas won the No. 4 singles match 6-1, 6-3, before Peralta Criado beat Bono 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 5 match. Curci finished the day off with a win in the No. 6 match, winning 6-0, 1-6, 1-0.
