Griffon Cross Country: 2022 Preseason Coaches Polls

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Griffon Cross Country was tabbed 10th and 9th respectively in the MIAA Cross country Preseason Coaches Polls with less than a week before the season's first meet in Maryville, Missouri.

WOMEN'S POLL

Five programs received first place votes in the 2022 MIAA Women's Cross Country Preseason Coaches Poll with Nebraska Kearney and Central Missouri tying for the league favorite. 

Defending MIAA champions Nebraska Kearney share the first place finish with Central Missouri. Both the Lopers and Jennies received 125 total points in the poll while UNK earned a league-high five first place votes while UCM collected two. 

Pittsburg State finished third with 121 points and two first place votes. Close behind the Gorillas was Northwest Missouri with 120 points and three first place nods. Rogers State rounded out the top-five and received the Association's final first place vote while totaling 97 points. 

Fort Hays State was picked sixth in the poll with 94 points while Missouri Southern was selected seventh with 87 points. Washburn received 66 points to finish eighth in the poll, Missouri Western came in ninth with 59 total points and Emporia State is in the 10th spot with 41 points. 

Central Oklahoma was selected 11th, Lincoln 12th and Newman concluded the 2022 poll in 13th. 

The 2022 MIAA cross country season is set to begin Friday and Saturday, Sept. 1-2. All roads lead to the 2022 MIAA Cross Country Championships, which is slated for Saturday, Oct. 23, in Jefferson City, Mo.

MEN'S POLL

Missouri Southern collected seven first place votes in the 2022 MIAA Men's Cross Country Preseason Coaches Poll to become the league favorites for the upcoming season. 

The Lions totaled 97 total points and seven first place votes to secure the top spot in the 2022 preseason poll. Coming in second was the defending MIAA champions, Pittsburg State, with 84 points and two first place picks.

Nebraska Kearney earned the final first place vote and tailled 82 points to finsih third. Northwest Missouri was picked fourth with 76 points while Central Missouri rounded out the top-five with 66 total points. 

Fort Hays State was selected sixth with 50 points, Washburn earned 47 points for seventh place and Emporia State finished in eighth with 38 points. Rogers State was selected ninth, Missouri Western 10th and Newman concluded the poll in 11th.
