ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Missouri Western Women's Basketball left 2022 with a win against Rogers State, hounding the Hillcats, 96-51, on Saturday afternoon inside the MWSU Fieldhouse.
This was MWSU's second-biggest point differential in a win this season since their 94-36 win over Avila on Nov. 26. The Griffons are now 11-4 overall and 5-2 in the MIAA.
Junior guard
Brionna Budgetts continued her hot streak with 21 points, six assists and four rebounds on the night. Meanwhile, sophomore guard
Abby Bala scored a Bala also grabbed four rebounds and two assists in her impressive performance to help push to get the Griffons over the Hillcats. Four out of the five starters also scored in double-digits, with
Connie Clarke and
Trinity Knapp both scoring 10.
Missouri Western started its commanding presence in the first quarter by jumping out to a 12-point lead until Rogers State got their first bucket of the night. The Hillcats (3-9, 1-4 MIAA) couldn't quite keep up after 15-4 start in favor of MWSU, with the first quarter ending 25-10.
The divide started to grow in the second quarter when Bala knocked down a three with 1:56 left on the clock, growing the lead to 26, the largest difference of the first half. The second half wasn't much different as the bench started to add to the party with 31 points on the night. Veteran players such as sophomore guard
Kadyn Cobb knocked down a couple of threes on the evening, as she went 2-of-5 from downtown.
