Griffons rout Lions to win fourth-straight game

JOPLIN, Mo. — Missouri Western made easy work of the Lions from Missouri Southern on Saturday night, beating them, 79-65, in runaway fashion at the Leggett and Platt Athletic Center..

The win marks the fourth straight for the Griffons (5-2, 2-0 MIAA), putting them in an early fourth-place position in the MIAA standings. Meanwhile, the Lions (4-4, 0-2 MIAA) have now dropped two straight after falling on Thursday to No. 1 Northwest Missouri.

Taye Fields played his way into the record books, snatching 17 rebounds to add to his 13 points. Fields' 17 boards is tied for the second-most rebounds ever in a game by a Griffon. Julius Dixon and Will Eames both led the Griffons in scoring with 14, and Reed Kemp added 10 in the win.

The Griffons put on a shooting clinic in the first half, as Missouri Western shot 71% from the field and 78% from three, finishing the half 7-of-9 from beyond the arc. It only took 5:18 for the Griffons to establish a double-digit lead, as Kemp nailed a triple to make it 19-9.

The Griffs ran that lead as high as 19, taking a 32-13 lead with 7:26 left in the first half. Missouri Southern wouldn't get closer than twelve, and the half ended at 43-27.

The second half was more of the same, with the Griffons holding the lead in the same region, never stretching it to more than 19 but never letting it fall under 12.
