Griffon Women go to work vs. Saint Mary in 94-65 win

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Missouri Western Women's Basketball defeated Saint Mary, 94-65, in its last non-conference matchup of the season on Wednesday evening at the MWSU Fieldhouse

The Griffons' win by 29 is their first game in nine days since their win against Emporia State on the road.

Missouri Western (10-4, 4-2 MIAA) remains undefeated against the Spires after playing them six times since 2015. Junior guard Brionna Budgetts led the team in scoring with 26 points. Twenty-one of those points came from beyond the 3-point line, where she was 7-of-9 on the night, tying a women's basketball record for threes made in a game. Junior forward Mary Fultz's season-high 16 points on the night gave her her second best scoring game in her career. She was just two points shy of her 18-point performance from the 2020-21 season against Rogers State.

Saint Mary scored first and kept a close game through most of the first quarter. The lead changed three times, but Missouri Western protected Looney. The largest lead Saint Mary had on the night was only two before the Griffons started cooking. The first quarter ended with a score of 24-14 in favor of MWSU.

Missouri Western's best quarter of the night came in the second when it led Saint Mary, 28-10, before taking a 52-24 lead going into the half. Saint Mary caught up in the second half, outscoring Missouri Western, 24-22, in the third and again in the fourth, 19-18, but the Spires couldn't quite climb back all the way.
