Griffons fall to Central Missouri, 4-1

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — An early goal by Elisabeth Pujado was answered instantly by Central Missouri, and the Griffons went on to fall to the No. 5 Jennies, 4-1.

The Griffons (5-8-4, 3-5-2 MIAA) got the scoring started in the 15th minute with Pujado slotting home a close range effort from a tight angle after a beeline ball from Kaili Campbell found her at the back post.

Central Missouri (14-1-2, 8-1-1 MIAA) found an answer less than a minute later, and proceeded to add three more goals throughout the 90 minutes. Julia Kristensen scored a hat trick for the Jennies.

NOTABLES
  • The Griffons are still alive in the hunt for the MIAA playoffs and even still control their own fate. A win on Sunday at rival Northwest Missouri would secure postseason soccer for the Griffons.
  • Central Missouri outshot the Griffons, 14-10.
  • Pujado and Campbell are now tied for the team lead with six goals a piece.
  • Annie McDevitt becomes the ninth Griffon to eclipse the 1,000 minute mark this season.
  • Campbell joined Nicoletta Froehlich in the referee's book, both receiving yellow cards.
UP NEXT
The Griffons head up Highway 71 for a matchup with Northwest Missouri State. A win secures the Griffons' chances for postseason soccer. However a loss or draw could still see them get in the MIAA tournament, pending the score of the Rogers State-Northeastern State game. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. in Maryville.
