ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Missouri Western lacrosse team played one of its most impressive games of its inaugural season as they competed all night on Friday with No. 2 Lindenwood before falling to the Lions, 19-13, at Hunter Stadium. The Griffons drop to 3-7 this season and 1-3 in the GLVC.
The 13 goals scored by MWSU tie the most Lindenwood has allowed in game this season as LU came in giving up just 5.9 goals per game.
Missouri Western controlled the game early on Friday as they took a 4-1 lead nearly 12 minutes into the first half. Goalkeeper
Mackenzie Porter had six saves during that span to keep the Griffons in front, while
Karlin York had two of the four early goals.
Lindenwood then showed why they're undefeated this season as they ended the first half on a 9-1 run and took a 10-5 lead at halftime. The Lions then scored the first four goals of the second half to build a nine-goal lead before MWSU's offense came alive again. The Griffons traded goals with the Lions before ending the game on a 4-1 run.
Madison Brady led Missouri Western with four goals, while
Karlin York and
Jordan Shughrue added three each.
Madison Iandoli finished with two goals and
Alex Shaffer found the back of the net once. Porter finished with 15 saves in goal.
Lindenwood outshot the Griffons 43-24, including 34-14 on goal. MWSU was much better with draw controls on Friday as they lost 20-14 and York led the way with eight. Turnovers plagued the Griffs as they committed nine more than the Lions, 24-13, which led to LU getting 13 more ground balls, 25-12.
