MWSU Baseball Loses Series Finale at Rogers State, 6-5

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Missouri Western baseball team lost the finale of their three-game series at Rogers State Sunday, 6-5.  The Griffons lost all three games as they drop to 2-9 this season.

Rogers State scored five runs in the first inning to take an early lead and the game stayed like that until eight.  MWSU rallied back with five runs of their own.  Colby Tam and Bailey Crump had RBI singles in the inning, Alec McGehee drove in two with a double and Ben Tsui was hit by a pitch to tie the game with two outs.

Missouri Western left the bases loaded in the eighth inning and then had a chance in the top of the ninth, but they stranded three runners again.  The Hillcats took advantage and earned a walk-off victory with an RBI single from Jonathon Soto.

Crump led the Griffons with three hits, while McGehee finished 2-for-3.  Jacob Standridge suffered the loss in relief as he allowed the run in the ninth inning.  He went 1.1 innings and allowed three hits.  Jordan Akins started and went five innings.  He gave up five runs on six hits and struck out three.

Missouri Western returns to the Griffon Spring Sports Complex next weekend as they play host to Missouri Southern in a three-game series beginning Friday at 3:00 p.m.
